What I Learned - A Song for Ella Grey by David Almond
This is an incredible book..really poetic and gorgeously written and a beautifully haunting story.
What I Learned:
so accurate...out of the blue is the way feelings get you, the real ones anyway.
adventures should be what life is all about, especially when you're a teenager, even if it's just for fifty miles!
this is a perfect insight of how it feels to be a teenager.
I love this so much. This is how I feel every time I get back to the sea. I forget how calm and well, just better it makes me feel.
another perfect description of how it feels to be a teenager.
not just a question for teenagers, but a question for all of us. And a toughie at that.
when you're young don't forgot to be young. There's plenty of time for all the anxiety and worry later on. Take the time to just be.
one of the most perfect descriptions of time passing and the monotony that often goes with it that I have ever read.
exactly how I remember feeling at that age. Such a challenging time and to be honest I don't think I would want to go back to it.
don't we all remember feeling like this when first love caught us?
"She will shine always within us, our star..." - this line is just utter perfection.
how I feel when I arrive by the sea.
My Goodreads Review:
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book is absolutely beautiful and haunting. I can see me re-reading this year in and year out.
Beautifully written prose about what it is really like to be a teen, love so deeply and experience life in full technicolour.
The language David Almond uses is simply incredible, and nothing I can say here can really do it justice.
I think this book should be put on the school curriculum, and, in fact I think every adult should read it too. I particularly loved the descriptions of the beach and the sea. I could almost smell the sea it was so well executed and beautifully written.
MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST READ!!!!!
Deserves way more than 5 stars. This book will stay with me for a long long time.
