What I Learned - Onwards Flows the River by Caroline Windsor
This is a beautiful book exploring friendship, family, faith and the future.
What I Learned:
No matter who you are or where you come from this is always true.
I guess nothing beats, or can replace, that unconditional love provided by someone who truly cares.
I can relate! Nothing better than knocking yourself out after a not brilliant day, and waking up to a better one the next.
Loved this word when I spotted it and just had to include it!
Yes! Just yes!!
Again, just yes!!!! (or the sea...I feel like this at the sea!)
Nothing better than the sense of peace and well being that the water brings. There is a bench by a waterfall in the village where I live that is perfect for this.
Very often easier said than done, but essential to a full and happy life.
Every parents mantra.
Very true. Instead of focussing on how we "should" feel maybe we need to focus on how we actually do feel more, embrace it and live in the moment.
...so go out and grab that opportunity before it disappears - who knows where it will lead you!
Mutually exclusive? I'm not sure. In a perfect world I guess you could feel both for the same person!
Again, easier said than done sometimes, but no matter what happens, always try to have that courage. There is no one more you that you, and trust me, people will love you for it!
...so always try and live your truth and be everything that you can be!
I know I may get slated for this, and this is probably a sexist thing to say, but I do think this is a very "male" trait (I can feel my daughters eyes rolling at me for using this phrase!) I find this really difficult to to because at any given moment there is a list of 20 million things whizzing around my head that need my attention!
Again, every parents mantra!
Love this thought about weddings, and I couldn't agree more. I sometimes think we forget these days that weddings are about 2 people celebrating finding each other, or finding that other person that loves their imperfections and failings, that person you are enough for I guess.
My Goodreads review:
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Beautifully written heart-warming tale about friendship. family, loss, faith and the way the future can take you by surprise.
These 3 unlikely friends are so differently, yet, incredibly balance each other out wonderfully. Their life intertwines, almost by accident, and leads them to a future and a destiny I don't think any of them imagined.
It's also nice to read a book where women support women with love and respect, this, I think, is a valuable lesson for life.
The supporting cast of characters are also brilliantly written and so believable.
This book has left me with a smile on my face, and I'm hoping for a sequel as I would love to see where life takes these young women in the future!
