What I Learned - Flying with a Broken Wing by Laura Best
This book is an absolute contender for future classic status...beautiful, heart-wrenching, classic & timeless.
What I Learned:
There's no worse feeling in the world than feeling you don't have a voice, that you're not being heard and ultimately that you don't matter - infuriating for anyone.
Always remember to keep telling yourself that you are worth something - even when others don't seem to notice. This works the other way too, make sure you tell the people that are important to you how much you value them to help them believe their own worth.
Wow! It's true that the imperfection on some our memories get rubbed away with time, and the memories we hear from our families are often a "glossed over" version.
I think we've all felt like this at one time or another - life would be so much easier if we could just get into other people's heads - especially to know if they mean what they are saying or if they are just telling you what they think you want to hear.
I love the thought behind this quote. Do you believe that any "truth" is better than no "truth". Getting personal here, I know there are some episodes in my life that my nearest and dearest will never know the whole truth about, and I intent to keep it that way because sometimes it's just better for everyone to wrap some events up in fantasy and magic rather than deal with them the way they actually happened.
No matter where you come from you have the power within you to do ANYTHING with your life - so go out and make your life the best it can be, and don't ever believe you deserve anything less than that!
Be creative in whatever way you can, whether it's something as simple as doodling or colouring in, or some big art project, it doesn't matter so long as that outlet is there - give your brain a rest from the rat-race and the fast pace of modern life.
It always takes work on your part to make your dreams come true...fate needs a helping hand! Try to forget about the challenges you've had and focus on the positives - I guarantee if you really stop and look you will find plenty!
Well this just speaks for itself - may you always have the courage to let your ideas into the light of day to shimmer and shine!
Always, always, always believe you can! And try you're best to encourage others to believe too!
I think this is true to a certain extent - but I've got my own spin on it. Sometimes you are so focused and hoping and wanting something specific that you miss some amazing opportunities and chances that do present yourself. There are often many paths to where you want to be - don't limit your self to just a couple because you could be missing something truly awesome along the way!
The little steps sometimes matter even more than the big ones!
Just because it's not probable doesn't mean it's unachievable...what is it they say - even the word impossible says I'm Possible!
There is always the opportunity to change your life - there is no such thing as it being too late. Believe it will happen, and I guarantee you it will happen!
Do it now - what are you waiting for? It doesn't matter what it is, don't talk yourself out of it, because even if it doesn't go quite how you thought it would at least you've tried, and I bet you've learned something along the way!
Real life eh! It really does have a habit of popping up and taking over - but go with it, what's the worse that could happen?
This just makes me giggle every time I read it!
Try your best to recognise these chances when they come along, and to be open to them...again what's the worst that could happen? And where could it take you?
This just speaks for itself - go out and make it happen!
Stuff them all :-) :-) :-) Enjoy your ride - don't let the miserable people get you down!
You are your best ally! And you can do anything! Own it!
Mushy alert - This made me think about family and friends who, for various reasons, aren't in my life every day, but I love them to bits, and know that they feel the same way and knowing is definitely more important than seeing ! (although that doesn't stop me missing them all.)
My Goodreads Review
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book is an absolute contender for future classic status, up there with the likes of Polyanna, Huckleberry Finn & Tom Sawyer. It has the same sort of beautiful, heart-wrenching, classic, timeless feel to it. Just an absolutely gorgeous story.
Cammie, born with sight challenges and living with her moonshine selling Aunt Millie, is such a lovely character who I was rooting for right from the beginning. She may have had it tough, but boy is she tougher! And when circumstance throw her together with Evelyn Merry, son of the local violent drunk, you feel like life really begins for the pair of them. Their friendship is one of the most beautiful and heartfelt ever written.
This book is utterly bitter sweet, and had me smiling along with Cammie's eternal optimism and empathy, as well as having tears rolling down my face at how unfair life really can be at times.
This is a must read for men, women & children of all ages.
