Bookity is the brainchild of Lou based in Reading, Berkshire UK.
Lou creates jewellery and decorations using old and unwanted books.
Lou was inspired to start her business by a good friend, who had a second hand book business and a lot of unwanted or unsaleable books. She always keeps in mind that she is recycling a precious object - a book, and that people love them.
After eight years Bookity is well on their way to their 10,000th sale!
Lou's background and education had always been in art and design, and as a kid Ishe loved to make and to draw, yet somehow, by the time she was 38 she was fully ensconced in an academic job that really had very little to do with hands-on making, although Lou did work with other designers. Lou had the urge to do something completely different.
Lou made the leap in the Spring of 2009, and set up Bookity a couple of months later, on a shoestring budget, in the spare basement room of her house in Reading, UK. Her partner Matt made a work bench out of an old door, and away Bookity went!
Bookity has remained a one-person outfit, but now it's a fully fledged micro business.

One of my favourite books turned into a beautiful bracelet...
You have a choice of three finishes: antiqued silver, antique bronze or silver plating.
The pages are sealed behind five clear glass domes. The base is brass, and is nickel and lead free, so suitable for sensitive skin.
Each dome is 16mm across, and the whole bracelet is 9 inches or 21cm long, so will fit around a wide range of wrist sizes.
Each bracelet is boxed, and wrapped in a handmade bookpage envelope, tied with natural linen twine.
Only non-precious books that would otherwise be pulped are used in this jewellery.

I've cheated a little bit with this one because there were 2 pairs I absolutely loved - Dr Who ones I know my daughter would adore, and the classic Jane Austen ones that I just covet!!!
Dr Who earrings are created using real (unwanted!) books. Dr Who and the Tardis. A fab gift idea for geek girls and fans of Dr Who. Each pair is handmade ,and will show the Doctor and the Tardis, but will vary slightly.
