The Road to Skye Day 2 Part 1
7am start this morning - was absolutely pouring - attempted a long walk with the dog but was way too wet and we were all like drowned rats within about 5 minutes so we sorted the van and headed back on the road about 8am.
Just past Glengarry we pulled over because we spotted an interesting looking Cairn...this is when things got very, very strange, in fact goosebump inducing strange. I happened to call my Dad to ask him a completely unrelated question. As I was finishing up the call I mentioned we were stopped and I was about to get out to look at a cairn at the side of the road. He had no idea where I was or what I was looking at, but he proceeded to tell me the name of a man he knew and how there was a monument for him somewhere that he's never seen. I'm sitting listening thinking there's no way that's where we've stopped...finished the call and got out and I am not going to lie, I absolutely freaked out when I read the name on that monument...Willie MacRae...the man my dad knew who did in very strange circumstances. I had chills...
I won't go into details here but you can find more on Mr MacRae's story here...like something straight out of a work of fiction - but I guess I learn ever day that life can be much stranger than fiction .
9am and we arrive at the Skye & Lochalsh sign...perfect photo opportunity...
The only thing we were battling were the midgies...again!!!!

9.30 we spot an interesting looking sign with 2 crossed sword - too interesting not to investigate...
It was the site of a Jacobite battle - you can see all the information on the plaques above - in English and, impressively, also in gaelic. You can find more info on this battle here
The place was beautiful and it's hard to imagine a brutal battle...gorgeous scenery and beautiful waterfalls...
Back on the road and we spotted the first supply stop of our journey...and boy were we glad to see it...stocked up on essentials of bread, bacon and chocolate!! Well stocked wee shop, with lots of unusual wee touristy things too...Daisy invested in a painted "Scotland" stone...find them here - well worth a stop!
Back on the road for us to find a stop for bacon butties...post coming soon!
