What I Learned - Ella: A Stepmum's Tale by J L Higgs
Ella is described by the author as" Fairy Tale Realism - Fairy Tales in real life situations" and it is great fun!
What I Learned:
How many different versions of "the truth" do you hear? How many conflicting "eye-witness" reports are there...trust nothing a hundred percent unless you witness it with your own eyes!
Always, always, always expect the unexpected...and the flip side of this is don't worry about things that haven't happened! You could imagine 100 different scenarios and life dictates that it will be the one thing you didn't think about that will happen!
It's okay to be both kinds of "fragile" at times!
This is quite apt given what is happening in the UK an d Europe at the moment. It's true if we have nothing to hide we should have nothing to fear, but, personally I think none of us are a hundred per cent comfortable with the idea that "big brother" is watching.
Love this modern day definition of the traditional rhyme...a good reminder for us all!
Again, a good reminder. I have said it often but I will say it again. Always treat others with kindness and empathy. The world could definitely do with a lot more of this kind of thinking at the moment.
My Goodreads review:
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Interesting unusual read! I read this book in a night, and have to say it made me smile and chuckle out loud multiple times...a unique, funny take on the old Cinderella story that I definitely did not see coming. The lead character, a journalist, is lovable yet confusing at times....I am left wondering if she is just playing the ditzy blonde, or if this is genuinely the case but with flashes on intelligence & inspiration. The book takes a bit of a turn in the middle, and seemingly tackles a new story, leaving me a little confused... but trust me, persevere because it all comes together in the end!
This book is laugh out loud funny, and perfect for an evening of light relief with a glass of wine and a box of chocolates.
I think my 14 year old daughter would love it too (lingerie parties and all!!!)
